How my twin lost 9 lbs in 30 days

Jen is definitely on track.  After 30-days through her healthy weight loss journey, she has already shed off 9 lbs of unwanted weight. From 205 lbs in March 9, 2015, she is now 196 lbs.

This is my twin in May 2014.  She was 190 lbs.  10 months later, she packed in 15 lbs more and grew to be 205 lbs.

3 months through my enrollment in the gym, Jen was convinced to enroll in the same gym I go to.  She had a strong start and she was definitely having fun.  However, she got caught up with her work as a manager in a BPO company and she was not able to consistently do her gym sessions.  Finally in January 2015, she dropped the gym and went on with her daily life.

Just 1 month ago, Jen and I met at Go Salads, a green salad bar in Eastwood. While enjoying each of our serving of green jeepney smoothie made up of lettuce, pineapple, and some almonds, our catch up detoured to a conversation about my weight loss.  She told me that she was completely inspired by my transformation from an obese class 1  to a healthy 134 lbs woman. She listened to my story.

That same day, I gave her a short session on understanding calories of the food she eats.  I also encouraged her to start a healthy weight loss journey with me which includes eating real food only and drinking only water at least 2 L per day.I told her that if she would follow through the tips I am giving her, she would definitely lose 8 – 10 lbs in 30 days.

Jen started to change her grocery list and started to buy real food.  She used to be a big fan of processed food such as hotdogs, bacon, and spam.  But since then, she has said yes only to real food. She would send me photos of her breakfast, her lunch, and her dinner.  She would enjoy her vegetable and eat her fruits,  steamed chicken, fish, and beef and snack on controlled portions of nuts and banana.

She would also drink coffee with 10 g of Anchor unsalted butter in the morning during her breakfast. This coffee concoction suppresses her cravings to eat more food and makes her feel full a little longer until her lunch time 5 hours later.  She enjoys eating sweet potato too.

jen,

This is my twin, from 205 lbs in March 9, 2015 to 196 lbs 30 days later.

Jen’s healthy weight loss journey doesn’t stop with eating the right kind of food. She also takes time walking for at least 30 minutes 3x a week.  Either she would go out with her music and walk or she enjoys her walk pushing her niece’s stroller.

“Twin, now that I’ve started this healthy weight loss journey.  There is no turning back.” Jen declared with her eyes beaming with determination.

She is definitely on a roll. And she is loving it.   😀

For the love of coffee

Coffee is super food packed with loads of antioxidants.  With just 2 calories per 1 mug of 8oz black coffee, I enjoy my fill of coffee everyday. I usually take 2- 3 cups of coffee in a day and no more than that.  I always follow the rule of moderation.

Black coffee on my breakfast.

I’ve found that adding 1 teaspoon of virgin coconut oil or adding 10 g of unsalted butter on my breakfast coffee,  gives this hot drink more flavor,  pleasurable aroma, and better body. Although the fat from butter and virgin coconut oil adds more calories to my coffee, I welcome it still.  It’s because 10 g of Anchor unsalted butter only has about 74 calories  and Cadia Virgin Coconut oil has 120 calories only per 1 tbsp.  These good fat cause your body to feel full and suppress craving for food for a longer period of time.

Coffee keeps me alert and awake at work too while the good fat from butter and/or from the virgin coconut oil makes my thought process more sharp.  Whether it’s brewed or instant coffee as long as there is no added creamer or sugar in it, I dig it.

Coffee at Krispy Kreme. And yes, I didn’t get doughnuts.

When I go out to the mall and want to relax for a longer period, I would go to the nearest coffee shop.  I would get my brewed coffee, black, with no creamer and sugar, and just enjoy it’s full flavor and aroma.  Drinking coffee while hanging out with friends makes the coffee drinking experience more pleasurable and fun too.

Coffee drinking is a force of habit that makes me happy.

Today’s dose of healthy: Fishcake and monggo bean sprout

Here is my lunch today for today’s dose of healthy. It’s fish cake, monggo bean sprout, and vinegar for dip.  Yummy!

fishcake

Monggo bean sprout is a dose of healthy.  This sauteed dish with strips of carrots and Baguio beans is nutty and crispy with loads of Vitamins B, C, and K.  Plus it’s fiber gives us the fill that we need for a very low calorie count. 1 serving of monggo bean sprout which is roughly about 1 cup has 86 calories only.  What can be more amazing than that?

Fried fish cake is another dose of healthy.  This fish cake made of tiny fish, flour, and egg only has about 121 calories for 1 serving of about 50 g.  It has good amount of protein, calcium, carbohydrates, and vitamins B2, B12, and B5.   Dip it with the pleasurably sour taste of  vinegar and that’s what I call explosive!

I finished off my lunch with 2 glasses of hot water.    For little less than 300 calories, I already had a satisfying and filling lunch.

There is no need to starve to lose weight.  All we need is to eat the right kind of food with the fiber, vitamins, mineral, protein, carbo, and good fat that we need for the right amount of calories. And get our fill with at least 2.5 L of water per day to flush out body toxins.

Just keep on eating. 😀

How I lost 42 lbs in 9 months

From 180 lbs in June 2014, I am now down to 138 lbs.  I am now 3 lbs lower than the highest end of the spectrum of the healthy weight range for my 5 ft and 3 in frame.

weightloss.png

My eating habit is a huge factor of my growing to 81.82 kgs in June 2014.  Now, that I follow a healthy lifestyle,  I now weigh, 62.7 kgs. That’s a healthy weight loss of 19 kgs in 9 months.

For a long time, I was one of those who struggled to win the battle of the bulge. Ha ha.  The Tokyo Bubble Tea beat me.  I was a regular customer in Tokyo Bubble Tea for their variety of milk shakes. My favorite was Double Chocolate Milkshake with tapioca pearls.  Ah! That sweet cooling sensation of the crushed ice, sugar, milk, and chocolates would always persuade me to eat more.

In June 2014, when I hit 180 lbs, I decided to change my lifestyle.  I started going to the gym at least 3x a week for 30-min total body workout sessions. Then I started to change my eating habits.

Oh yes. There is no shortcut in losing weight the healthy way.  After all, I accumulated those fats through several years of sedentary and full of sweets kind of lifestyle.

I learned that our body accumulates or lose fats based on the amount of calories we take.   Calories is the measurement of the energy needed by our body to keep us going.  Every calorie that the body cannot consume for the day are stored as fats. Whoa! It’s that simple, right?

Yes it is. There is no need to be taking diet pills, diet plum, diet tea, and diet whatever.

In my new healthy lifestyle, I simply followed the following principles:

1.  Eat only real food.  Processed food are junk food.  Processed food typically triples the amount of calories in your food.  Instead of eating a pack of crackers which typically has 3 pcs on it at 150 calories, eat 1 pc of cavendish banana instead. It’s delicious, more filling, and contains only about 60 calories.  You can even eat 2 pcs of cavendish bananas and still you have taken 30 calories less than 3 pieces of crackers.   You take in more food for less calories! Brilliant, right?

2.  Do not starve.  Starving will cause you to binge. And when you binge, you take in more food to satisfy your hunger and almost triples the amount of calories you should have gotten when you eat on time.   Schedule your eating on a regular basis.   I eat 6x a day.  But I eat only real food.

3.  Exercise.  This will make your body burn more calories faster.  The faster your body burns your calories, the faster your body shed off unwanted weight.

4.  Drink at least 2 L of water per day.  I drink only water.  Water is filling, healthy, and has zero calories. Compare that with a 500 ml of ice tea which has about 180 – 200 calories.   Or compare that with a 12 oz of Coke at 360 calories.  Remember that it’s the unused calories that are turned into fats.   I always keep my calorie intake for the day on average of 1300 calories only. That’s all that a typical adult woman’s body needs.  I would rather give my body calories from healthy food instead of the empty calories from junk food.   Plus, as an extra benefit, water flushes away body toxin.  And the more water you take, the more body toxins are flushed out.  The results:  healthier and glowing skin. 🙂

4.  Think happy thoughts.   Happy thoughts releases happy hormones.  Happy hormones makes you feel good about yourself and will keep you away from junk food.  Happy hormones makes your body burn more calories too.  Smile the stress away.  Do not entertain stress. Instead, keep yourself  busy with being happy.

ME3

Here I am, happy with my boss and friend and her son.  I had lunch with them in The Wholesome Table, a restaurant who serves only organic food.

By April 17, 2015  I will be down to 133 lbs.  By May 2015, my weight will go down further to 128 lbs.  My goal is to maintain my weight at 125 lbs – 127 lbs.  I’m certainly on track to achieving this goal on June 2015.

One year after I started my healthy weight loss journey, I will finally achieve my goal.

I am satisfied. I am happy.   🙂
